| The early years of the 20th century were characterized
by a wave of migration that uprooted many thousands of people, forcing
them to move from land to land in search of a better life. |
| |
| Amongst the countries that beckoned the emigrants,
many with the promise of prosperity and happiness, were America, Australia,
Canada, South Africa and Egypt. |
| |
| Greece and Egypt: two nations separated by the Mediterranean
Sea, and yet united by their history, their culture and an age-old
bond of friendship. |
| |
| Egypt, land of the Nile, blessed by the gods, drew
many Greeks, who settled there and established communities and businesses
which remain even to this day, perpetuating the ancient ties between
these two sister nations. |
| |
| One such successful business was “St.
George’s SAE” and we are still going strong today, as
we proudly welcome you to our web pages. |
| |
| But let’s start at the very beginning: |
| |
| Young, adventurous, creative, with a natural eye
for business, the founder of the company, “Stefanos Tamvakis”, arrived
in Alexandria, Egypt, where he set up a foodstuffs factory which he
named the “St.
George’s
Factory”. The year was 1905. |
| |
| The company produced Turkish delight and Rice Flour,
it packed tea, spices and baby food. |
| |
| But, not satisfied with this, “Stefanos Tamvakis”
extended the company’s range to include the production of indigo,
floor wax and other household products. |
| |
| Egypt blossomed and “St.
George Factory” blossomed with her. The booming market brought
about new prospects, new products, new packaging. |
| |
| The
new product range replaced the old, taking a firm hold In the market: |
| Baking Powder, Vanilla Essence, Jelly Powder, Pudding
Powder, Caster Powder, English type Sauce, Curry Powder, Falafel
(an oriental delicacy), Corn Flour, and many more. |
| |
| The time came when the reins of the company were
handed over to the two Sons of the now ageing Stefanos. Pavlos and
Theodoros Tamvakis were both equally energetic, hard working and honest
but above all, innovative. |
| |
| The brothers Tamvakis were the very first to Import
automatic volumetric packaging machines into Egypt. They used this
innovative new equipment pack their products in sachets - a whole
new form of packaging at the time. |
| |
| We are proud to say that the trade name “St.
George’s SAE" often replaces the product name in the supermarkets
- with customers, rather than asking for box of Baking Powder, saying
a“St. George’s“ please”!! |
| |
| That says it all, it certifies the celebrated course
of the company, confirms our superior quality and the excellence the
company has achieved over the years. |
| |
| And today, at the dawning of the 21st century, in
the age of computers and the Internet, the “St
George’s SAE” is not indifferent to progress. |
| |
| The current managers of “St.
George’s SAE”, Stefanos and Stefanos Tamvakis, Sons of Pavlos
and Theodoros, continue in the family tradition, with an eye to current
trends and innovations. |
| |
| We produce and we continue to grow. Sill based in
Alexandria, but in facilities now owned by the company, we manufacture
and package our products, always taking every care to ensure the finest
quality with up to date production and packaging control systems. |
| |
| Quality has always been our Creed our Trade Mark. |
| |
| Consumers In Egypt and throughout the Arab world,
as well as in Europe, know that when they buy a sachet of “St.
George’s SAE” they can be sure of quality and………why not? |
